Towards the end of 2025, we started a series of introductions to our technical team at Holymer. We showed who is behind our design projects, who proposes innovative solutions and who transforms challenging technical specifications into working prototypes and final products. But every successful company is much more than just a technical team - it's a complex organism where every part plays its own vital role. That's why it's also time to introduce those who work behind the scenes, in the so-called back office, and ensure that the whole company runs like a well-oiled machine. One of these people is Svetlana, who joined Holymer in April 2025.

From Cinema to Design Studio: A Career Path with an Unexpected Direction.

Svetlana's career began with a degree in social work from Charles University in Prague.

During her studies, she was looking for extra income and practical experience, which led her to a part-time job at the CineStar Anděl multiplex cinema. She started in regular operational positions and gradually gained experience in the operation, teamwork and coordination of daily activities.Over the course of two years, she worked her way up from the position of assistant manager to operations manager at the company's headquarters, where she was responsible for coordinating and methodically managing the operations of all 13 CineStar multiplexes in the Czech Republic. This role included setting up and controlling operational processes, functional management, coordinating work across branches and ensuring operational and crisis situations were resolved.

After the birth of two children and during maternity leave, there was a natural opportunity to reflect on future career direction. The impetus came from a recommendation from a mutual friend who connected Svetlana with Holymer. After several meetings, she became part of the team and today Svetlana works for us as a sales representative. What does a sales representative do in a design studio? Her job is to establish business relationships. Actively seek out companies, approach them, present them with the possibilities that Holymer offers. Understand the needs of clients and work with the technical team to find new solutions. She is also involved in the development of long-term business strategy, website modifications, and other activities that support the daily operation of the company.

Life outside of work.First of all, she is a mother of two.  She finds relaxation in gardening, reading books and exercising. She enjoys going for walks in nature, cycling and cross-country skiing. Besides that, she is also active in music - she sings solo and in a band and is working on her English.

Her story shows that a career path does not have to be straightforward.

Experience in other fields is not a weakness, but a solid foundation on which to build. Sometimes it is an unexpected change that opens the door to work that gives new meaning.

From Helping Professions to the World of Technology

Another member of the back office team is Petra, who joined Holymer in May 2024.

Beginnings in Social Work

She began working in social services while still in secondary school. After graduating, she completed a higher vocational school program in social pedagogy. As a volunteer and later as an employee of a low-threshold contact center for drug users, she worked both in the field and at the facility itself. Subsequently, she studied addictology at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. During her studies and while completing school internships, she also worked in supported housing for people with mental illness and at a hotel reception desk.

After completing her studies, Petra started as a contact worker at a low-threshold club for children and youth. A place where she met young people every day who needed support, understanding, and sometimes just a space to be themselves. After less than a year, she became the club's manager and stayed there for almost 5 years.

Then came a change – a year at the environmental non-profit organization Arnika, where the world of social work merged with environmental issues.

And then two maternity and parental leaves in a row, which brought a completely different, but no less important kind of work – caring for her two sons.

An Unexpected Turn in 2024

In spring 2024, her neighbor Vláďa (one of Holymer's founders) approached her with a job opportunity at his company. A technology company? Sales? Marketing? An unexpected choice, but she went for it.

A Social Worker in a Design Studio

Today she works as a sales representative and marketing assistant. Her work consists mainly of building business relationships, actively seeking out companies, contacting them, and presenting the solutions that Holymer offers. In collaboration with the technical team, she looks for new solutions tailored to each client's needs. She also contributes to the creation of marketing materials, promotes the company on LinkedIn, writes blog posts for the website, and handles various current tasks that need attention.

Life Outside the Office

Petra is a mother of two sons, whom she fully devotes herself to. But she also finds time for herself. She plays bass guitar in a band, enjoys going to concerts and exhibitions, collects and reads various books, though she especially loves comics. She exercises with a group of friends, goes on hiking trips, rides a bike and a scooter. She loves traveling and outings.

And perhaps that's exactly why the journey to Holymer had to be so long. Because every stop along the way had its purpose.
